This is the largest release Octave has had, and almost all of it is the player. Now Playing used to be a sheet that slid up over the app. It is now a zoom: the artwork you tapped grows into the player and folds back down into the row or the mini-player it came from, one picture the whole way, the way Apple Music does it. Getting there meant removing as much as adding — the bounce at the end of the close, the second cover that flashed through the dismiss, the sleeve dissolve, the bar's spring-up beat, and the mask that briefly showed the previous track's artwork are all deleted rather than tuned. The title block can no longer land on top of the scrubber, the close arrives instead of being cut off, and switching between a square sleeve and a full-bleed immersive poster is a single shape flip instead of two covers arguing. Sing does genuine vocal separation now, not centre-channel cancellation, so the backing track survives while the vocal comes down — and it works on Dolby Atmos tracks, which it silently refused to do before. Lyrics translate on-device: free, offline, nothing leaves the phone. Background vocals sit back in their own weight, and a lyric line can no longer keep scrolling past the end of the song it was written for. Auto-Mix gained a picker — Automatic, Apple's timing, or Octave's — and the badge now names the transition that is actually happening rather than the one that was planned. The queue, the credits sheet, the song context menu and Add to Playlist were all rebuilt to match Apple's structure, so Up Next has its History section, credits list people by role, and the menu is flat sections in a fixed order instead of a scrolling stack. Widgets are the other headline. Now Playing, Recently Played and Pins read your library through an App Group, and an App Group belongs permanently to the team that registered it — so on a sideloaded copy those three used to say "Widget data is locked". They now reach your phone through Octave's own relay instead, and all six widgets work on an ordinary install. The rest is weight and correctness. The player's backdrop stopped redrawing under your finger, a hidden lyric panel stopped running a 30-times-a-second clock behind the queue, and the Home tab stopped rebuilding itself on every frame of a drag. A 500-song playlist went from hitching on 27.7% of frames to none. Album, Playlist and Library were rebuilt to their measured layouts. Recommendations learn from what you actually listen to, on-device. Octave runs on iOS 18 again, with its own chrome for the older layout. And a long list of fixes underneath: skipping back no longer hangs, downloads no longer wedge behind a dead background session, explicit songs stop playing the clean master, changing quality mid-song keeps your place, playlist sharing actually publishes, a large library stops silently failing to sync, and the #1 song on Home is the one from your part of the world.
